Cheese and Bacon scones

These delicious savoury scones are a definite Family favourite. They are best served with tomato soup on a picnic! 

Tia's tip

Use scissors to cut up the bacon, it is much easier than a knife

Ingredients

  • 225g self raising flour

  • 55g butter

  • 55g cheese grated

  • 150ml milk

  • 3 slices of uncooked bacon cut into small pieces

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Pinch of mustard powder (optional)

What do we need?

  • Mixing bowl

  • Weighing scales

  • Scissors

  • Fork

  • Measuring jug

  • Grater

  • Pastry brush

  • Baking tray

  • Heat oven to 200oC

  • Put flour, salt, pepper and mustard powder (if using) into a bowl

  • Cut butter into small pieces add to the flour mix, rub in the butter until mix looks like breadcrumbs

  • Stir in cheese, then add milk and mix to a soft dough

  • Roll out the dough into a rectangle that is about 1cm thick

  • Scatter the bacon on and roll up the dough to make a swiss roll shape. Use a little milk to stick the edge

  • Cut into 8 pieces and lay on baking tray. Brush with milk

  • Put in the oven for 20 – 25 mins until a nice golden brown.
