Key Stage One
Capturing children’s imagination and excitement for food should be started early. Practical cookery can help bring the learning about nutrition alive.
Cooking, food and nutrition is now part of the national curriculum. The Children Food Trust recommends 24 hours food education in this key stage with most of the time focused on practical cookery. Specifically:
-
Use the basic principles of a healthy and varied diet to prepare dishes
-
Understand where food comes from
The Cooking Pioneers approach - In key stage one the children would learn about nutrition, where food comes from and they would learn how to make recipes that involve food preparation but not cooking. Here are some examples of recipes we will be using: Dips, Salads, Sushi and no bake energy balls.
