Chilli Chocolate Popcorn

Making popcorn with children is so much fun. Make sure you keep the lid on when its popping! This recipe combines the flavours of chilli and chocolate, but when you make popcorn yourself you can flavour it with whatever you like!

Ingredients

  • 50g Popcorn Kernels

  • 2 Tbsp Oil

  • ½ Tsp Chilli powder

  • ½ Tsp Ground Cinnamon

  • ¼ Tsp Salt

  • 1 Tbsp Sugar

  • 50g Butter

  • 50g Dark Chocolate Chips

What do we need?

  • Tablespoon

  • Teaspoon

  • Saucepan with a lid

  • Large Mixing bowl

  • Small Mixing bowl

  • Baking Tray

  • Wooden spoon

Tia's tip

This chilli sugar mix is nice but we also like our popcorn with honey or toffee sauce.

What do we do?

  • Put the chilli powder, cinnamon, salt and sugar into the small mixing bowl. Stir it well.

  • Put the oil and popcorn kernels in the saucepan and stir well. The popcorn kernels need to be well covered in oil.

  • Put the lid on and put it on a high heat.

  • The popcorn will start popping after a minute or so.

  • Try to hold the lid on and shake the pan every 15 seconds. It will stop the popcorn at the bottom burning.

  • Once the popping slows down to 1-2 seconds take it off the heat and put it into the large mixing bowl.

  • Put the butter in the pan and let it melt.

  • Pour the butter over the popcorn and stir well.

  • Sprinkle the sugar mixture over and stir again.

  • Put the chocolate chips in the saucepan and stir until it is melted.

  • Lay the popcorn out on a baking tray.

  • Drizzle the chocolate on the popcorn.

  • Let the chocolate set, then eat and enjoy!
