Easy Bread recipe

This recipe makes a small loaf and is easy to make. The kneading is good fun and great way to get the children involved.

Tia's tip

Use some flour on your hands because it can be really sticky

Ingredients

  • 360g strong bread flour

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 Packet of quick action yeast/ 7g

  • 1 tblsp Vegetable or sunflower oil

  • 235mls Warm water not hot

  • 1 tblsp of sugar

What do we need?

  • Small bowl

  • Large bowl

  • Measuring scales

  • Teaspoon

  • Tablespoon

  • Fork

  • Spatula

  • Loaf tin or baking tray

  • What do we do?

  • Put the yeast, sugar and water into the small bowl – leave for a few minutes to foam up

  • Measure the flour and salt into the large bowl

  • Mix the water mixture with the flour and oil to form a dough

  • Take the dough out of the bowl and put on a lightly floured surface

  • Knead (lightly oil your hands to stop the dough sticking) for around ten minutes until the dough in smooth and stretchy

  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with cling film. Put the bowl somewhere warm to rise for 30 minutes

  • After 30 minutes knead the dough lightly again and cut up into four pieces. Roll gently with your hands to form a roll. If you are putting into a tin lightly oil the tin. Leave again for 30 minutes to 1hour to rise again

  • Preheat the oven to 200C (180C in a Fan oven)

  • Then bake for 15 – 20 minutes for rolls, 20 – 30 minutes for large loaves

  • When turned over the bread when tapped should be hollow sounding.

  • Leave on a wire wrack to cool if you can!
