Tia's tip

You do not need to cook the other fish as it will cook in the oven. You can use cooked or uncooked prawns
What do we do?
-
Turn the oven onto 190/200C
-
Peel the potatoes and put onto boil for 15 minutes or until cooked through
-
Place the smoked fish into the poaching pan with enough milk to cover, simmer for 5 minutes
-
Cut the remaining fish into cubes and place in the oven dish, along with the prawns (if you are using them).
-
Remove the smoked fish from the poaching pan and put to one side to cool.
-
Add 1oz butter into the other saucepan, put on the stove to melt
-
Add the flour to the butter, stir well
-
Pour the milk from the poaching pan through a sieve into the saucepan
-
Whisk well until the sauce thickens, add the remaining milk and stir well
-
Remove the sauce from the heat and add lemon juice, dill and salt and pepper to taste
-
Flake the smoked fish into the oven dish and pour the sauce over.
-
Drain the cooked potatoes and mash well using the masher
-
Add the 50g of butter and 50mls of milk to the mashed potato and stir well
-
Spoon the mashed potato mix on top of the fish and sauce, spread to cover
-
Place the fish pie in the oven and cook for 15 minutes
-
After 15 minutes remove from the oven and sprinkle with the breadcrumbs and cheese
-
Cook for a further 15 minutes or until brown on top and bubbling round the edges. The fish should be cooked through too.
Eat and enjoy!
