Gingerbread biscuits

Gingerbread

This easy to make recipe is great fun to make with the children. You can leave them plain or decorate with a little water icing.

Tia's tip

If you are making the biscuits for children you can reduce the amount of ground ginger you add

Ingredients

  • 12oz / 350g Plain Flour

  • 1 tsp Bicarbonate of soda

  • 2 tsp Ground ginger

  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon

  • 4 1/2 oz/ 115g Butter

  • 6oz / 150g Light brown sugar

  • 1 free range egg

  • 4tbsp Golden Syrup

What do we need?

  • Weighing scales

  • Bowl

  • Pint jug

  • Tablespoon

  • Teaspoon

  • Baking trays

  • Rolling pin

  • Cookie cutters

What do we do?

  • Put the oven onto 180oC

  • Measure the flour, bicarbonate of soda, ginger and cinnamon in the bowl

  • Add the butter and rub through with your fingers to form a breadcrumb consistency

  • Stir in the sugar

  • Whisk together the egg and golden syrup in the pint jug

  • Stir the egg and syrup mixture into the bowl to form a soft dough

  • Wrap in cling film and put in the fridge for 15- 20 minutes to chill

  • Put some baking parchment onto the baking trays

  • Use a little flour to roll out your dough. It should be around 1/2 cm thick

  • Use cutters to make shapes. When you put them on the baking tray leave a gap between them as they will expand and spread

  • Put in the oven and cook for 15minutes

  • Leave to cool fully before decoration
