Small mixing bowl
Tablespoon
Weighing scales
Electric Mixer or Wooden spoon/ Spatula
Rolling pin
Baking tray
Icing bag
Tia's tip
When you have bought the shortbread together as a touch it is good to wrap it up and let it rest
What do we do?
-
Pre-heat the oven to 190C/ Gas Mark 5.
-
Put the butter and sugar into the large mixing bowl and whisk together until the mixture is smooth.
-
Add the flour and whisk until combined. The mixture will resemble bread crumbs.
-
Bring the dough together with your hands.
-
Put the dough on the worktop and use a rolling pin to roll it out until it is 1cm thick.
-
Use a cookie cutter or small cup to cut the dough into circles.
-
Put the shortbread onto baking tray and bake in the oven for 10minutes, or until pale golden-brown.
-
Once they are cooked leave to cool completely. If you decorate them too quickly the icing will melt.
-
In the small bowl mix the icing sugar with a little water until you get a thick but pipeable icing.
-
If you have black food colouring divide the icing in half and colour half black.
-
Use the white icing to pipe your spider webs. Start in the centre and draw lines out to the edge – three on each side. Then use the icing to join the lines up going round in a circle. You should fit 3-4 circles onto the biscuit.
-
If you have black icing pipe a small oval in the centre of the biscuit. Then pipe four legs on both sides so you have spider biscuits.
Eat and enjoy!
